You wouldn't think they would have much in common being from two different generations and in different stages in life. One generation busy buttoning up their home, packing up and getting out of dodge for sunnier climes. The other just getting in the groove of the kids being back in school, with rounds of conferences, soccer practice and this week, Halloween.
But stress is a commonality that we all occasionally suffer from at one point or another. Unless perhaps you're a buddhist monk, but I have doubts about even them.
Leaving your primary home is always stressful, where do you think 'A vacation from my vacation' came from. That's right, some poor soul who had a million things to do before leaving home that almost made leaving not worth it. And you worry about your home when you're in Arizona, Palm Desert or Mexico. Will a tree fall on my home? What if the pipes freeze? Will we come home to a cozy family of mice in our kitchen? The sun feels amazing after years of Northwest gloom but you feel sorry for your house up here, sad and all alone.
But todays moms don't have it better, whoah, talk about the ultimate multi taskers and dealers of stress to the nth degree. Juggling home, kids, dinner, laundry, work. It's hard to imagine that one day things will get easier. My daughter is grown now and going through the cycle herself and it reminds me of that time. But moms I'm here to say that things do get easier and less stressful. Hard to believe but one day you'll be able to sleep in on a Saturday, till noon if you want. No guilt, just wonderful undisturbed sleep.
These are the generations I think about when I head to my office in the morning. Because I know only too well the stress that both generations face. Been there, done that.
We have a home far away, Mexico to be exact, that we worry about as much as we worry about anything. Is she being taken care of properly? Her name is Casa Karina, by the way. Will there be a mudslide or will termites eat all our furniture, will a boulder come barrelling down the hill and through the bedroom. Yep, these are true events. So we worry and stress just as any snowbird would.
And I also well remember running morning to night with the responsibilities of a mom, career and home and the utter exhasustion that I could never shake.
So it's been extremely gratifying to see the relief and sense of comfort that we've been able to provide Snowbirds as they head south this winter with the knowledge that we know what it's like to worry and that their homes will get the care that we would wish our home would receive in our absence.
And I love the idea of providing our Girl Friday service to busy moms, a service that I would have loved and so desperately needed. And assistant by the hour. Need a room reorganized for company? Got it! 10 errands run by 4pm? Sure! Someone to chaperone a playdate for 5? Heck yeah!
So it's our fervent desire to be here for moms, for snowbirds and really for folks in Gig Harbor and Fox Island that need a little or a lot of help with stressful times. We're not monks but we do think that it's our job to provide a little Zen in this hectic world.
